St Francis Animal Welfare at ASDA, Eastleigh - Thursday 30 August and Friday 31 August 2007
We spent two days at ASDA, in Chandlers Ford, to promote our shelter and the Autumn Open Day. However, we were amazed by public support, and overwhelmed by the generosity of donations of both money and pet food! ASDA Manager, Mike, could not have been more welcoming, and his team of staff were genuinely the most friendly and helpful we have come across!!
Shoppers were treated to a short visit by Arnie, our Umbrella Cockatoo, and ex-St Francis rescue dogs, Turbo, Toby and Keeka!
Thanks also go to everyone who volunteered their time to work in shifts in order to man our display and information stand over the two days - these were Dannie, Julia, Helen, Beryl, Sandy, Dave, Nancy, Louise, Wendy.
UPDATE - A big thank you to the customers and staff at ASDA, who helped us raise a grand total of £753!

Radio Hampshire (107.8 FM) report from St Francis Animal Welfare - Thursday 30 August - 11am to 12pm
Gemma MacParland of Radio Hampshire visited us at our shelter, for her weekly "AtWork Network" hour from 11am to 12pm on Thursday 30 August. Various members of staff chatted to her about the shelter and its work, and even a few animals tried their best to get heard on the radio ... including (not surprisingly) our chatty boy, Arnie, the umbrella cockatoo!
Lapstone Pub, Botley Road, Horton Heath - Fun Day - Bank Holiday Monday 27 August 2007 - 2pm to 5pm
We joined The Lapstone Pub for their Bank Holiday Fun Day on 27 August!

Visitors saw Arnie our Umbrella Cockatoo in action ... he said "hello" to everyone, and even treated them to a little song and a dance later on!

We also took along Annie, our friendly shelter rescue dog, who lapped up all the attention from children and adults alike! Our fantastic volunteer, Julia (pictured below at our stall), provided us with invaluable help on the day, and even donated the fluffy, soft toy for our Guess the Name of the Dog game ! Julia and Wendy manned the stall for the event, and thank the staff of the Lapstone Pub for making them feel so welcome.

The Lapstone have also very generously donated takings from some of their other stalls on the day! Our thanks go to the landlords, staff and customers at the Lapstone for their kind support of our shelter.
Fair Oak Carnival - Saturday 23 June 2007
Thanks to all who visited and supported us at the Fair Oak Carnival on Saturday 23 June! The procession was certainly fun, and everyone loved Francis - the Animal Welfare Bear (kindly donated by Office Furniture Newbury), inside of which was our Chairman, Dave.

Dave braved the rain-soaked route through Fair Oak on foot, together with his dog, Sasha, who he adopted from St Francis after she was rescued from being chained up in a yard for 15 months! Wendy had the easy job of being nice and cosy, driving the van which was decorated with bunting and followed Francis the bear through the procession! Beryl manned the stall awaiting our return ... after which, we all got soaked whilst being on the stall ! It was worth it, for the promotion that these events bring to St Francis.
Fundraiser at Fryern Junior School - 12 July 2007
The children of Fryern Junior School in Chandlers Ford held a fundraising day for St Francis Animal Welfare on Thursday 12 July ! Children and parents brought in cakes and toys, to sell at the event, and Head Mistress, Mrs Dewsbury, brought in a toy monkey to be raffled off. Photos and details of all the animals at the shelter were placed on large display boards for the children to see and read.
The day started with a short talk by a member of staff from St Francis, following which Francis, the Animal Welfare Bear, came out to dance with the children, while the cake and toy sale was underway!

As an extra special surprise, Arnie, our umbrella cockatoo, came to the school to say a personal "hello" to all the children!
The event was a great success, and not a single toy or cake was left at the end of the day! The children raised the grand sum of £80, and St Francis Animal Welfare presented special gifts to the children who organised the event, Louise Giddings and Olivia Stone, as well as to the children who helped with the sale of cakes and toys.
If you would like to arrange a fundraising day at your own school, then please email us with details at fundraising@sfaw.co.uk.
Pets Thanksgiving Services - Sunday 15 July 2007 - 3pm
Our thanks go to Reverend Bell, who conducted a beautiful Pets' Thanksgiving Service on Sunday 15 July, and also to our organist, Margaret Langston. Blessings were given for the animals at our shelter, including visiting dogs, cat and tortoise!
