Carla
Unfortunately, we have had to say farewell to our lovely horse Carla.
Carla was a much-loved part of our family, having been with us for the last 15 years. She was brought to us through South Hants Horse and Pony Rescue, after she was found abandoned in a field following the death of her owner. We never knew Carla's true age, but it was estimated that she was around 36 years old.
She will be remembered fondly for her cheeky antics. She used to politely open her own paddock gate whenever she saw a member of staff approaching with her feed. However, if it was fairly close to her feed time, and she saw members of staff nearby, tending to the other animals, she would impatiently stamp a hoof on the gate, to remind them that she was waiting!
When our paddock gate was replaced by a newer, sturdier one, she could no longer open it on her own, but we think she actually preferred this new metal gate, as it made a more satisfyingly resounding "CLANGGG!!" whenever she banged a hoof on it! She definitely made sure that every member of staff, wherever they were in the shelter, could hear when it was Carla's feed time!
We all now miss that annoying, constant clanging sound!
Carla will certainly be remembered fondly ... especially whenever we walk past the metal gate, and see the large dent she left in it for us!
