Give us a chance!

The following dogs have been with us for quite a few months now, as they keep getting overlooked for the "perfect" dog. Please consider giving one of them a chance! (SEE BELOW FOR UPDATE!)

Toby

TOBY

Toby is a 2 year old, male, liver and white Dalmation.

He has a great, friendly personality and loving nature, and thrives on attention. Unfortunately, Toby has been with us for some time, as he keeps being overlooked because of his medical problems.

However, all he needs is a loving, attentive owner to pop a couple of tablets in with his food every meal time.

Toby has a spinal condition, which he has had from birth. We are monitoring his need for steroids for this, which causs him to have an excessive appetite. This makes him extremely possessive with food, and he will snatch food away from you whenever possible!

Toby is not aggressive and doesn’t bite deliberately, but he can do so accidentally when food is involved.

Toby has also been diagnosed with having Urate Crystals (breed specific), but medication and a special food diet have controlled this successfully.

He is also slightly deaf in one ear, but responds well to being called.

It is considered that Toby would be better off as the only pet in the household, as he tends to dominate over other dogs, and doesn't seem to like cats.  It is thought that he would do best with one-to-one attention from an older family with no young children.

Please ask our shelter staff for more information on Toby, if you are interested in offering him a home.

Kye

KYE

Kye is a 1 year old, male, Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross.

His last owner only had him for one day, before deciding that he was too boisterous to keep!

Kye is indeed a lively boy, and he does tend to warn off strangers with a loud bark. However, he is really just a softie, and is very affectionate once he gets to know you, as most of our staff have discovered. He will sit with his back against his kennel gate, waiting to be stroked, and be scratched behind the ears.... he absolutely loves this, and will close his eyes and make little "contented" noises.

Kye

Kye does know the usual obedience commands, but can be stubborn and easily distracted or exciteable. He needs an experienced owner, who will be willing to discipline and train him properly. We believe that he will reward the right person with plenty of loyalty and love, and that he will be a fantastic pet.

Our new "Pet Introduction Room" is available for potential adopters to spend some time with the animal they wish to adopt. This gives them some time and space, in a relaxed atmosphere, outside of the kennels, to introduce the pet they wish to adopt to any children in their family, and even existing pets. This will give you an idea of whether you are all well-suited, before going ahead with an adoption.

Kye can be homed with older children, and some dogs.

UPDATE - 10 January 2008 - We are pleased to report that Toby was adopted today, and we hope he has many happy years in his new home!

As for our lovely Kye .. he currently has someone interested in adopting him!!

FURTHER UPDATE - Kye has now been adopted! See our "Happy Endings" page for his story - Click HERE
