Bugsy, the Shetland Pony

Bugsy and Shelter Manageress, Ann

This is our latest rescue, "Bugsy".

Bugsy is a Shetland Pony who we brought to the shelter, after his lady owner died, and her husband did not want to look after him.

Unfortunately, Bugsy was not in a very good condition when we picked him up. He was terribly underweight - his ribs were clearly visible - and he is also suffering with worms, which is what makes his belly look so round and full in this photo!

Poor Bugsy's hooves are also very overgrown, and will require regular visits from our farrier over the next three months, in order to start to get them down to a normal size, to make it comfortable for him to walk and run around again.

We estimate that it could take about six months to get Bugsy back to a normal, healthy condition. However, all the staff at the shelter are very happy to have him with us, and we think he will prove to be a good companion for our other pony September, who has been feeling a bit lonely since the recent passing of our mare, Carla.

If you would like to sponsor Bugsy, for only £10 for one year, this will help us to cover the cost of his necessary treatment, as well as his food and bedding. In return, we will send you a special Sponsorship Certificate, with a photo of the lovely Bugsy, and a letter telling you all about his progress! Click here for more information on Sponsorship, and to print off our Application Form.
