Percie - from poorly puppy to calendar cover star!
Percie is a border collie puppy who had been removed from his litter early and taken to another home, to serve as a companion for another dog. However, this didn't work out, when the other dog took a dislike to Percie.
We first met Percie when he was eight weeks old, and brought to the shelter in a very poorly state. He was riddled with worms, which had given him a very bloated stomach, and terrible diahorrea. Due to his young age, and frail state, we were obviously extremely concerned but, thankfully, he responded well to the worming treatment, and he eventually passed all the worms succesfully. His weight on entering the shelter was 2.5 kg, but after worming treatment this went down to 1.7kg, which goes to show just how many worms poor Percie had passed.
Once the worms were gone, he started to thrive and put on weight. When we established that he was fit and healthy enough, he was booked out to a couple and their teenage daughter, Charlotte.
The shelter's photographer decided that Percie would be a perfect cover star for St Francis Animal Welfare's 2007 calendar, and visited him at his new home shortly after he had been officially adopted.
With all the excitement of the new home, a garden, and doting new owners, it was quite a task to him to stay still long enough to take a photo. However, it was fantastic seeing this lively little pup so happy, after his previous ordeal.
And so, gorgeous little Percie became one of our calendar cover stars, as shown below.
