The Executive Committee of St Francis Animal Welfare would like to confirm that there is no 'crisis' at the animal shelter, despite any claims to the contrary. The shelter is open to the public and is carrying on with the charity's core business as normal, which is - as it has always been - the care of animals in need.
It is confirmed that a member of staff is suspended, pending investigation. However, the Committee has a duty of care to its staff, and is therefore not prepared at this stage to discuss the reason for suspension. To do so would be unfair to the individual concerned, as these matters are internal and confidential until such time that the Committee has completed the investigations.
At this time, such investigations are ongoing.
The Committee would like to stress that the shelter is running normally, and that it is fully manned, with all the animals being very well cared for. The shelter continues to take in any animals that are brought to us, and there is always someone on 24 hour call. The charity is also continuing to find new homes for animals on a daily basis.
As always, the charity has been overwhelmed by the public support received over the last few days. There has been no shortage of supporters offering to volunteer their services to us, for which the staff and Committee are always extremely grateful.
